What is the best potty chair to buy for a boy?
I'm getting ready to start potty training my 21 month old son. Which potty chair is best? Any tips you can give a first time mom would be welcome too! He's still not showing signs that he's ready, but I want to buy the chair since he likes going in the bathroom with me.

i got my son a frog fisher price potty chair. it's comfy to sit on and the front of it has a nice shape for boys. He loves it and new what it was for the minute he saw it. the ones which have a removable splash guard I dont trust...I've read too many horror stories of them pinching the penis skin.
I actually really liked our Safety 1st brand seat from Walmart. Really easy to rinse/wipe, never cracked or anything. It had a cushy little seat ring, with the little cup/shield that, when turned up, cupped the boys private area so his pee didn't go out when he was sitting.

It's definitely fine that you're having him involved in observing & learning bathroom basics; but he's still REALLY young, so definitely don't start pushing/urging at all, or you might wreck his interest & scare him off. Whatever any moms 'claim' to try to 'one-up' you, the statistics still say most boys aren't fully potty trained until 3-3.5 yrs. It's harder for boys than girls. I was like you & just let him observe us & let him pretend on his seat; and then magically right before he turned 3, he just started doing it for real. It was no headache at all. SO I'd really recommend not getting headaches over magic methods, and stick with what you're doing. :)
Both of my boys had a elmo potty seat that sat on the ground. They liked it an awful lot, but never used it. lol I think they just thought that it was a cool chair. :) We got a toilet ring that sits on the toilet, and got a stool to stand up on. This was far more effective... I think they liked going on the actual toilet, plus it flushes which is exciting. It did have a pee guard, I ended up taking it off, my youngest seemed to have a had time getting up and over it, plus I got scared he might hurt himself. I just tell him "pee pee down" lol and he makes sure his pee pee stay down into the toilet bowl. Hope this helps!!! When you start, even just sitting him on the potty offer him a little treat, to get him to want to go agian. :) good luck
