Did anyone get by without a rocker/glider?
Or is this a must-have item for a new baby? Seems like upholstered ones cannot be had for less than $400 or so. Did you definitely need a comfy rocker? Was anyone able to just use an old fashion rocking chair? Did you keep it in your baby's room or in your living room?

Thanks for any info anyone has on Rockers/Gliders!

i had a glider rocker and it was only 100.00 for it
im not getting a glider...my sisters both have kids and neither one bothered with the glider they were fine...i do have an old fashioned wooden rocking chair but i doubt ill even use that, it'll probably just be more decorative
I was able to get a good quality one for 299. In fact, many of them today are that price or even less expensive. I definitely reccommend getting one! Both for you and for baby. It will be part of a bonding experience for you and your little one. Not to mention you will get pretty tired with late night feedings and baby loves the rocking motion. If you can, maybe put it on a baby registry. Oftentimes for a shower, a few people will pull together to get a couple big ticket items. Also many places offer 20% coupons which apply to large ticket items as well.

P.S. Congrats!!
I did perfectly well without it. Was considering buying one, even checked ebay for cheaper ones, but in the ended I changed my mind.

I guess they can be very comfy and all, but I wouldn't say that they are something you just can't do without.
I have a glider in the baby's room, but I hardly ever use it. I always use our Lazyboy rocker in the living room because it's so comfortable and I can watch TV- LOL. Rocking soothes the child because it mimics the way that it was inside you. I'm sure you can get by without it, but you will be doing a lot of bouncing and jiggling! Best of Luck!
I didn't and don't have a rocker or glider. I just rocked in the chair. My son's room didn't even have a chair for myself and I in his bedroom.
Walmart has pretty good price on good gliders. Also you could look on craigs list. I used my glider in the living room but it is just as fine in the nursery, if u need peace bedroom is best place. But i didnt use one at all with my 1st two kids, they used a bouncer n they were fine.
Honestly, we never used it for any of the three kids I have. We owned one for the first, a nice glider that my "mother-in-law" (we were not married, so whatever you want to call her) got us. I maybe used it a few times. My daughter wasn't into gliding or rocking. She was a "bouncer". We set it up with my middle boy, but he was so easy to put to sleep, we didn't really need it. When I got married to my husband (not the same as the boyfriend), we had a nice, old classic rocker that was in his room as a baby. I have it in my son's room...and have used it about five times total. I just didn't find that rocking was my thing or my babies thing. I would spend the money on something a little more useful.
I have a comfy, well padded, beautiful antique rocker and I plan to use that! Why spend the money if you have something that will work as well. I agree with others though that you can get a nice one for less that $400 but if you have a rocker already, just use that and put the other money towards diapers!! Best wishes!!
No its not a need I had my daugter got one but never used it .. some people just use it becouse when there breast feeding or rocking the baby to sleep or burping baby there good for those things but besides that ... its not a need you can simply go to a yeard sale and fine a rocking chair go to Craigs list they should have one and cheep there always giving them away even for free!
My mother-in-law gave me an antique rocking chair. It was SO UNCOMFORTABLE...no cusions or anything, just hard wood. But the upside of that was that I could not fall asleep while feeding the baby - so I didn't have to worry about dropping her or anything. And I was definitely tired enough that dropping her was a possibility!

I kept the rocker in the baby's room
Never had one. I would nurse in bed or on the couch.
